Botanicals

New Zealand is a unique natural environment that has evolved from millions of years of geographical isolation. Centuries of indigenous Maori wisdom guide us in selecting plants native to Aotearoa that have the ability to aid healing, soothe inflammation and restore moisture.  We research the latest in skin science to blend vitamins, aromatics and antioxidants, drawn from botanicals sourced here and around the world, to deliver real results for your skin...and delicious reward for the senses.

Evolu Skincare: Prime actives

Vitamins, essential fatty acids, antioxidants and water-binding agents are essential to keeping your skin balanced, youthful and radiant. These are the elements proven by skin science to occur in abundance in the botanicals we select for Evolu formulations.

Among the ingredients we utilise to replenish nutrients, boost your skin's natural defences and renew its hydration and vitality are many 'superstar' botanicals:

ACTIVE MANUKA HONEY

Honey is well known as a natural antimicrobial, and the special potency of New Zealand’s unique Manuka honey to stimulate wound healing and promote healthy skin is well documented and scientifically proven. The unique bioactivity of Manuka Honey gives it extraordinary healing and repairing properties, making it extremely beneficial for the skin. It also works as a humectant, binding moisture into the skin, and its natural nutrients and vitamins help stimulate cell metabolism and renewal.

BORAGE OIL

Borage Oil is cold pressed from the seeds of the Borage plant (Borago officinalis), and has the highest concentration of Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) of any plant source. GLA is an Omega 6 fatty acid that is necessary for regulation of metabolism, and healthy skin, hair, and nails. It helps combat natural moisture loss and also has the ability to calm and reduce inflammation, making it especially suitable for skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, acne and rosacea, as well as prematurely aged skin.

HARAKEKE

Nature’s super skin hydrator, Harakeke is renowned for the clear polysaccharide gel exudate produced on the surface of leaves at the base of plant. The mild astringency of this gel helps control oil overproduction which, coupled with a natural antimicrobial action, makes it an effective defence against breakouts. It naturally soothes, hydrates and cools, reducing puffiness and redness.

KAWAKAWA

This extract from the leaves and bark of the New Zealand pepper tree was widely known in traditional Maori medicine for its soothing and healing properties. Used as a treatment for wounds, skin inflammation and sensitivities, it has natural filming, protecting and moisturising actions and is highly suitable for inflammatory conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

KUMERAHOU

This is one of New Zealand’s valuable healing plants with a long history of medicinal use among Maori and early European settlers. As well as having effective soothing and repairing properties, the leaves also have a natural lathering action when mixed with water - making kumerahou ideal for non-foaming cleansers suited to sensitive and oily skins.

KIWIFRUIT SEED OIL

Kiwifruit is well known for being rich in Vitamin C, but less well known is that the tiny seeds of Kiwifruit contain essential fatty acids (EFAs) - the most predominant of which is Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA). This plays a very important function in the regeneration of skin cells and repair of damaged tissues. One of the Omega-3 fatty acids, it has known cosmetic benefits, rejuvenating the skin and helping reduce the effects of aging.

LENTIL SEED EXTRACT

This extract is rich in the oligosaccharides that help regulate the skin’s levels of sebum, one of the keys to smoother appearance. Clinical studies show these natural sugars have a multi-action influence on the factors that cause uneven tone, rough texture and shininess: helping reduce sebum production, reinforcing the collagen structure of the dermis, and reducing dilation and slackening of the pores.

MONOI DE TAHITI

Used by the Tahitian people for centuries and comprised of macerated coconut oil and Tiaré flower, this organic active is renowned for its abilities to lock in moisture and shield the skin from harsh environmental factors

ROSEHIP OIL

Extracted from the seeds of organically grown Rosehips, this pure plant oil contains high levels of Essential Fatty Acids (Omega 3, 6 and 9), the essential components that support the generation and renewal process of the skin’s cell membranes. By assisting the cells’ own mechanisms of regeneration, Rosehip oil has repairing, strengthening and softening actions that are especially effective for reducing redness, scarring and other signs of damage.
